Five Question Friday: September 28th

I’ve been CRAZY busy since school started back up, and this blog has taken a back-burner (once again) to life and my devotional blog. But today as I was going through Five Minute Friday posts, I found this other link-up! I figure it will fit in great with this blog and give me at least ONE original post per week. :)

Five Question Friday – the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you’ve suddenly discovered your muses had a busy day and can’t be bothered.

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!Oh, and remember (pay close attention…this is the important one)…HAVE FUN!

Questions for Friday, September 28th:

1. Do you prefer to drive to your vacation spot or fly?
I have had exactly one plane ride in my life, and that was to go to a funeral.  On the few vacations I have been on, we always drove.  I would (1) LOVE to go on a vacation every year (driving 5 hours to visit my family a few times a year does NOT count as a vacation) and (2) LOVE to be able to go somewhere that HAD to be reached by plane.  :)
2. If you could live any where in the world, where would you go and why?
Oh dear.  There is just no way to answer that question.  If money were no objects, I would totally live in a different country every year for the rest of my life.  There are just too many places I would love to spend time exploring – Australia, Italy, Germany, Spain, Scotland, Norway, Israel, Peru, Argentina, etc., etc., etc.
3. Should grown women wear leggings?
Only if you are under 40, have skinny legs, and wear them with a tunic or short dress – something that at least reaches mid-thigh.
4. If you could change your name to any other name, would you? And what would it be?
At this point, no.  But I hated my name when I was younger.  I wanted to be Veronica.  I have no idea why.
5. What magazines to you have subscriptions to?
All You and Family Circle.  I think that is it right now.  And I don’t have time to even read those.
Your turn!

Questions for Friday, September 21st:

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?
That depends on if we are talking about oral grammar or written grammar.  Being from the South, I am usually not too concerned about oral grammar, because I think speech patterns and dialects are so awesome most of the time.  I guess my biggest pet peeve is when someone says “axe” instead of “ask”.  When it comes to written grammar, I break out the red pen.  I can’t STAND typos and misspelled words.  Sentence fragments are ok, however.  :)  I also refuse to give up on the Oxford comma.  I will not stop using it no matter what.  And Pluto is also still a planet.

2. What’s your favorite thing about fall?
Hands down seeing the Smokey Mountains after the leaves change colors.  Runners-up:  football and chili.

3. What’s your favourite dish to take to a potluck?
Chili.

4. When do you start Christmas (Holiday) shopping?
I am usually mostly done by now.  Not this year, however.  I really need to get on that.  Stat.

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?
Nope.  I lived in the same house until I was 25, with the exception of one year living on campus during college.
Your turn!

3 Bad Things Stress Can Do to Your Body (and How to Stop it)

Reblogged from Daily Savings From All You Magazine:

1. Skin Problems
A stress-induced chemical reaction in the body can make skin more sensitive and reactive. Oil-producing glands then go into overdrive, triggering acne and other skin issues. Stress can also worsen hives, rosacea and eczema.

Fix: Prepare a bath.
Fill a tub with lukewarm water and add 2 cups of collodial oatmeal (make your own by grinding non-instant oats in a blender or try ready-to-use product such as Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment, $7 for 8 packets).

My life is very stressful right now. It is so incredibly true that stress can cause physical issues. I've had backaches, headaches, stomachaches, you name it.

These are some great tips for helping to alleviate some of the physical problems caused by stress.

Sometimes, though, if you are really stressed out it is hard to relax, even when you have set aside the time for a hot bath or just to chill out and watch some TV or read. I've found that one of the best things to do to alleviate stress in those instances is to exercise. Run, kickbox, do Tae-Bo, hike, bowl, play tennis, whatever. There's not much better to relieve stress than punching a bag or hitting a ball as hard as you can. Lol.

Why I Hate the Word ‘Diet’ and Can You ‘Cheat’ on Your Diet and Still Lose Weight?

I hate the word “diet”, but everyone uses the term when someone is trying to lose weight.  I’ve learned that the better way to achieve weight loss and get healthy is to focus on the positive, and the words you use have a great deal to do with that.  Just the word “diet” conjures up images of rice cakes, boring salads, and growling stomachs.  No thank you.  That is why people can’t stick with any sort of restrictive “diet” for any period of time.

When people find out that I’ve lost 50 pounds and gone from a size 14/16 to a size 6/8 over the last 2 years, they always ask one of two questions:

Let me tell you, as the mom of an almost 16-year-old, it only gets WORSE as they get older. lol

I have tried the first tip, but had never heard of the others. I have sprayed with Febreeze before, and I keep powder and Odor Eater spray in the house.

Now that I am selling Avon, though, I have ordered some of their Foot Works Healthy Deodorizing Foot Powder (888-923). It’s available in my online store for only $5.
